The single stage furnace is the traditional furnace design of the past as there is only one stage of heating. When your thermostat calls for heat and the furnace turns on, the furnace immediately fires to its single speed. This is like pressing the gas pedal to the floor of your car immediately. Single stage heating operates much like a car in stop and start traffic. This means the same amount of gas and electricity is consumed every time the furnace ignites. A single stage-furnace will do the job in heating your home. However, you will not achieve the comfort levels experienced with a two-stage or modulating furnace.

These types of furnaces work best in smaller homes that do not have many levels and are an economical choice for furnace replacement and upgrading. While the furnace only has one-speed for heating, all are available in high efficiency models featuring AFUE ratings of at least 95%. Enjoy reliable performance with this simple design.
